Sunriver is located in Central Oregon, two miles west of Highway 97 and 15 miles south of Bend.
It is bordered by the Deschutes River and is surrounded by National Forest Land. Sunriver is a planned community consisting of interrelated villages containing single and multi-family residential, resort, commercial and industrial properties.
Since our community is unincorporated, Deschutes County Planning Division handles all zoning issues. The Sunriver Owners Association oversees all development within Sunriver’s planned community except for the privately owned Business Park. Sunriver maintains its own fire and police services on site.

In the mid-1800s, French-Canadian fur trappers of the old Hudson’s Bay Company joined pioneer settlers and Native Americans in the central Cascade Mountain Range area. The fur trappers gave the name Riviere des Chutes (River of the Falls) to one of Oregon’s most scenic rivers, the Deschutes River, from which the county of Deschutes took its name. In 1916 Deschutes County was created from a part of Crook County.
